Solution

The correct option is B 5.0 Ω
Standard deviation of sum of two random variable

st.dev. (X+Y)=Var(X)+Var(Y)+2Cov(X.Y)

as X and Y in the given problem are independent, so their covariance will be zero

Cov(X,Y)=0

as variance=(standard deviation)2=σ2

σx+y=σ21+σ21=32+42=5
