A lending library has a fixed charge for first 3 days and an additional charges for each day there after. Sarika paid Rs. 27 for a book kept for 7 days while Sonali paid Rs.21 for the book she kept for 5 days . find the fixed charge and the additional charge per day.

Let the fixed charge for first 3 days and each day charge thereafter be Rs x and Rs y respectively

$x+4y=27\to \left(1\right)$

$x+2y=21\to \left(2\right)$

$\text{2}\to \text{1}$

$\text{2y = 6}$

$\text{y}\text{= 3}$

$\text{Put in 1}$

$\text{x + 12 = 27}$

$\text{x = 15}$

$\text{Hence fixed charge = Rs 15}$

$\text{charge per day = Rs 3}$
