Open in App
Solution

The number of letters in the word ”ASSASSINATION” are 13.

So, the number of elements in sample space is,

n( S )=13

(i)

Let A be the event “a letter chosen at random from the given word is a vowel”.

The number of vowels in the given word is 6.

n( A )=6

The probability “a letter chosen at random from the given word is a vowel” is given by,

P( A )= number of outcomes favourable to A Total number of outcomes = n( A ) n( S ) = 6 13

Thus, the probability of the event “a letter chosen at random from the given word is a vowel” is 6 13 .

(ii)

Let, A be the event “a letter chosen at random from the given word is a consonant”.

The number of consonant in the given word is 7.

n( A )=7

The probability “a letter chosen at random from the given word is a consonant” is given by,

P( A )= number of outcomes favourable to A Total number of outcomes = n( A ) n( S ) = 7 13

Thus, the probability of the event “a letter chosen at random from the given word is a consonant” is 7 13 .
