A lift is designed to carry a load of 4000kg in 10 second through 10 floors of a building averaging 6 meters per floor. Calculate the horse power of the lift. (Take g=10 m s2 and 1 hp=750 watts).

Given,

Height h=6×10=60m (10 floor)

Weight W=mg=4000×10=4×104 N

Power P=Whtime=4×104×6010=24×104Watt

P=24×104750=320 hp

Horse Power of lift is 320 hp
