A light ray is incident on a plane mirror at an angle of 60°. Calculate the angle of reflection.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data and drawing the diagram of the situation

Given data:

The angle of incidence "i" = 60°

The angle of reflection "r"=?

The diagrammatic representation of the given case is,

Step 2: Formula used

According to the first law of reflection,

The angle of incidence is always equal to the angle of reflection. i.e i=r......(a).

Step 3: Calculating the angle of reflection

On, putting all the given values in equation (a), we get

"r"=60°.

Then, the angle of reflection "r"=60°.

Hence, if a light ray is an incident on a plane mirror at an angle of 60°, it will be reflected with the angle of reflection of 60°.
