The thinner the lens, i.e., (the central part of the lens) the less is the deviation, as shown in the figure.




As the centre of the lens is similar to a glass slab, the lens is made thin so that the light ray goes undeviated if it falls on the pole. So in a thicker lens, the deviation will be more.
