Let the height to which the liquid rises in the capillary tube be h.
Cross-sectional area of the capillary tube is A=πr2
The force due to surface tension pulling the liquid column vertically upwards is,
F=(2πr)×σ×cosθ ...(ii)
Since liquid is perfectly wetting,
θ=0, cosθ=1
Here, 2πr= length of circumference on which force due to surface tension will be acting.

For vertical equilibrium of liquid column,
