(a) Components of food that provide nutrients are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Out of these carbohydrates and fats provide energy, proteins are needed for growth and repair, vitamin provides protection against diseases and minerals assist in the proper functioning, normal growth and good health.
(b) The two components of food that do not provide nutrients are water and roughage (dietary fibre). Water is needed for various functions such as transport of digested food, to excrete waste products and roughage is needed for the normal working of digestive system
