A long spring is stretched by 1 cm. If the work done in this process is W, then find out the work done in further stretching it by 1 cm.

let w be the work down extending the spring

$w=\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)k{x}^2$

since,

$x=1cm,w=\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)k$

since, it is extending a further of 1cm

i.e;2cm

therefore,

$w=\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)k(2^2-1^2)$

$=\left(\frac{1}{2}\right)3k$

hance,

$w=\frac{3k}{2}$
