When the magnet approaches the ring, the magnetic flux linked with the ring changes. Thus, induced current flow in the ring. The direction of induced current is such that it opposes the cause which produces it. The acceleration of magnet will be lesser than the acceleration due to gravity as there is an induced force acting on it.
