Let the number of days he had spent = x

$\therefore$ Number of rupees spent in each day = x

$\therefore$ Total money spent = $x\times x=x^2$

=1, 296 (given)

$\therefore x=\sqrt{1296}$

$\Rightarrow x=\sqrt{4\times 4\times 9\times 9}$

$x=4\times 9$

$\Rightarrow x=36$
Hence required number of days = 36
