Let speed upstream be x kmph.
Then, speed downstream =3x kmph. Speed in still water =12(3x+x)=2x kmph ∴2x=283⇒x=143 So, Speed upstream =143 km/hr Speed downstream =14 km/hr Hence, the speed of the current =12(14−143)=143=423km/hr
