Solution

The correct option is D 5 km/h
We can write three-quarters of a kilometre as 750 metres and 1114 minutes as 675 seconds.

Rate upstream is:

750675=109 m/sec.

Rate downstream is:

750450=53 m/sec.

Therefore, rate in still water is:

speedinstillwater=upstreamspeeddownstreamspeed

Speedofmaninstillwater=upstreamspeed+downstream2

12(109+53)=12(109+159)=12(10+159)=12×259=2518 m/sec.

Now, we convert m/sec into km/hr. as follows:

2518×185=5 km/hr.

Hence, the speed of the man in still water 5km/hr.
