Question

A man carries an object of mass 50 kg to the top of a tower of 80 m high. Calculate the work done by the man.

Open in App
Solution

Given:

The mass of the object m=50kg

Height of the tower h=80m

Finding the force required in carrying the object:

Let g be the acceleration due to gravity. Its value is 10ms-2

Force applied on the object, F=mg=50×10=500N

Finding the work done on carrying the object:

Distance through which the object is moved, s=h=80m

Work done W=F×s=500×80=40,000Joules

Hence, work done on carrying the object to a height of 80 m = 40,000 Joules.
