If a person holds his breath for longer period of time then it will result in a drop in oxygen as there is no intake of oxygen during this period. It will also lead to increase partial pressure of carbon dioxide because the cells continue to release carbon dioxide during metabolic processes. Now this increment in carbon dioxide will lead to its association with water to form carbonic acid in blood. Ultimately, this will result in decreased pH of the blood.
