Question

A man does work in 5 days . Man and son do the same work in 3 days . In what time son can do the work alone

Open in App
Solution

Man can complete work in 5 days.

So, in 1 day he will complete 1/5th of the total work.

Lets, assume that his sons take “x” days to complete the same work.

Similarly, in 1 day sons will complete 1/x th part of work.

Now , total time taken to complete the work by working together is 3 days. So in 1 day, together they should complete 1/3th part of work

So, equation will be like this

  1. 1/5 + 1/x =1/3
  2. 1/x = 1/3 - 1/5
  3. 1/x = 2/15
  4. X = 15/2

X = 7.5

X is what we considered as total number of days needs for sons to complete the work.

So, number of days required by sons to complete work is 7.5 days.

seven and half days
