Solution

Let the man invests Rs x in each company.For company A :Investment = Rs xNominal value of each share = Rs 100Market value of each share = Rs 125Number of shares bought = x125Rate of dividend = 8%Dividend on 1 share = 8% of Rs 100 = Rs 8Dividend on x125 shares = Rs 8x125For company B:Investment = Rs xNominal value of each share = Rs 100Market value of each share = Rs 75Number of shares bought = x75Rate of dividend = 6%Dividend on 1 share =6% of Rs 100 = Rs6Dividend on x75 shares = Rs 6x75now, total income = 8x125 + 6x75 = 8x125 + 10x125 = Rs18x125Let n be the no. of shares bought of each company.Total investment = Rs 2xMarket value of 1 share of company A = Rs 125Market value of 1 share of company B = Rs 75Now, according to given situation,125n + 75n = 2xn = x100Now, dividend on 1 share of company A = Rs 8dividend on x100 shares of company A = Rs 8x100 Now, dividend on 1 share of company B = Rs 6dividend on x100 shares of company B= Rs 6x100Now, total income = 8x100 + 6x100 = 14x100Now, according to question, 18x125 - 14x100 = 1420.144x - 0.14x = 1420.004x = 142x = 35500So, total money invested = Rs 2x = Rs2×35500 = Rs 71000
