A man is $4$ times as old as his son. After $16$ years he will be only twice as old as his son . Find their present ages.

Let the age of son be $x$ and the age of father be $y$.

Since, the age of father is $4$ times to his son.

So,

$y=4x$ ……. (1)

Since, the age of father is $2$ times to his son after $16$ years.

So,

$y+16=2(x+16)$

$y+16=2x+32$

$y=2x+16$ ……. (2)

From equation (1) and (2), we get

$4x=2x+16$

$2x=16$

$x=8$

And $y=32$

Hence, the age of son is $8$ years and age of father is $32$ years.
