The correct option is D $240000$

Let the value of the entire estate be Rs x Then,
Part of estate received by wife = Rs $\frac{2}{3}x$
Remaining part = Rs $(x-\frac{2x}{3})=Rs\frac{x}{3}$
$\therefore$ Each of the two sons receives
$Rs\frac{1}{2}\frac{x}{3}=Rs\frac{x}{6}$
Given $\frac{x}{6}=40000$
$\Rightarrow x=Rs40000\times 6=Rs240000$
