A man purchased a certain 10 kg of sugar at ₹600. He sold half of it at a loss of 5% and the remaining at a loss of 7%. Find the total loss amount.

Solution

Given, Cost Price of 10 kg sugar = ₹600
Cost price of 5 kg sugar $= \frac{600}{2} = ₹ 300$

Loss amount on first 5 kg of sugar $= \frac{5}{100} \times 300 = 15$
Loss amount on second 5 kg of sugar $= \frac{7}{100} \times 300 = 21$

Total loss = 15 + 21 = 36

Hence, the total loss amount is ₹36.
