Let the money he saved in first year = $x$
so
$x+x+100+x+200+x+300+x+400+x+500+x+600+x+700+x+800+x+900=16500$
$4500+10x=16500$
$10x=16500-4500=12000$
$10x=12000$
$x=1200$
