Solution

The correct option is D 16%

For 1st article:

Let CP be x1. Then according to question:

x1+40% of x1=Rs. 4000

1.4x1=Rs. 4000

x1=40001.4=Rs.200007=Rs. 2857.143

For 2nd article:

Let the CP be x2. Then according to question:

x240% of x2=Rs. 4000

0.6x2=4000

x2=40000.6=Rs. 6666.667

So,

Total CP=2857.143+6666.667=Rs. 9523.8

And,

Total SP=4000+4000=Rs. 8000

Since, CP>SP. Hence loss will occurs.

Hence,

Loss=CPSP=9523.88000=Rs. 1523.8

So,

Loss(%)=1523.89523.8×100=15.99%=16%
