on one he gained $20\%$

on another he lost $20\%$

i.e., $\frac{120x}{100}=492$

$\frac{480y}{100}=123$

$x=410$

$y=615$

CP of one chair $=410$

CP of other chair $=615$

Profit $=492-410=82$

Loss $=615-492=-123$

Total Loss $=82-123=41$

Loss $\%\frac{41}{984}\times 100=4.1\%$
