Let time taken to ride one way be x and time taken to walk one way be y.
Time taken to walk one way and ride back is 4 hours and 30 minutes or 270 minutes.
Then $x+y=270$
By riding both ways he would have saved 3 hours.
Therefore,
$2y=270-180=90$
$y=45$
Therefore time taken to ride one way is 45 minutes
We know, $x+y=270$
or $x=270-45=225$ Therefore time taken to walk one way is 225 minutes.
Time taken to walk both ways is $225\ast 2=450$ minutes or 7 hours and 30 minutes.
