The correct option is D $5$ km
To get the distance between start and end i.e A and E, we use the Pythagoras theorem. In triangle ABE, $(AB)^{2}+(BE)^{2}=(AE)^{2}$ ; $4^{2}+3^{2}=x^{2}$ . So, we get x = 5, which the distance between start and end.
