A man travels 600km partly by train and partly by car. It take 8 hrs. and 40 min If he travels 320 km by train and the rest by car. Find the speed of the train.

Solution :-

Let speed of train be x

Let speed of car be y

Now distance = Speed $\times$ Time

Now, $\frac{320}{x}+\frac{(600-320)}{y}=8+\frac{40}{60}=8+\frac{2}{3}$ __(1)

$\frac{200}{x}+\frac{(600-200)}{y}=8+\frac{40}{60}+\frac{30}{60}=8+\frac{2}{3}+\frac{1}{2}$ __ (2)

solving (1) and (2)

$x=80y=60$

Speed of train = 80 km/hr

speed of car = 60 km/hr
