Question

A manufacturing company makes two models A and B of a product. Each piece of Model A requires 10 labour hours for fabricating and 0.7 labour hour for finishing. Each piece of Model B requires 15 labour hours for fabricating and 2 labour hours for finishing. For fabricating and finishing, the maximum labour hours available are 180 and 30 respectively. The company makes a profit of Rs 9000 on each piece of model A and Rs 11000 on each piece of Model B. We have to maximize the profit. What is the objective function for this linear programming problem? Assume The company produces x pieces of model A and y pieces of model B.

Solution

The correct option is A 9000x+11000y
In a linear programming problem, the function we try to maximize or minimize subject to certain constraints is called objective function. In this question we want to maximize profit. The function or expression which represent profit is our objective function.Suppose x is the number of pieces of Model A and y is the number of pieces
of Model B. Then
Total profit (in Rs) = 9000x+11000y
Let Z = 9000 x+11000y
Objective function Z = 9000x+11000y
