From energy conservation:
Decrease in gravitational potential energy = Increase in elastic potential energy
mg(h+x)=12Kx2
2×9.8(0.4+x)=12×1960×x2
50x2x0.4=0
x=1±1+4(50)(0.4)100=1±1+80100=1±9100=0.1,0.08
As x is positive x=0.1 m or 10 cm
