Question

A mass-spring-dashpot system with mass m =10 kg, spring constant k = 6250 N/m is excited by a harmonic excitation of 10 cos(25t)N. At the steady state, the vibration amplitude of the mass is 40 mm. The damping coefficiend (c, in Ns/m) of the dashpot is

Solution

Given, m=10kg,F0=10N
ω=25 rad/s k=6250 N/m
X=F0(kmω2)2+(cω)2
or (kmω2)2+(cω)2=F0X
(cω)=(F0X)2(kmω2)2

=(100.04)2(625010×625)2
cω=100.04=250
c=250ω=25025=10 Ns/m
