Solution

The correct option is C 2
Expressing the first two digits as variables, we get:

1st digit=a
2nd digit=b

Now, the rest 3 digits are related to aand b as follows:

3rd digit=3 less than the 2nd digit =b3

4th digit=4 more than the 3rd digit =(b3)+4 =b+1

5th digit=3 times the 1st digit =3a

Sum of the digits=a+b+(b3)+(b+1)+3a=4a+3b2

Now, we know that the five-digit number is a multiple of 3.

4a+3b2=3k.........(for some natural number k)
4a2=3(kb)
2(2a1)=3(kb)

Hence, 2(2a1) is a multiple of 3.
(2a1) is a multiple of 3.

A digit can only take values from 0 to 9. Also, the 5th digit is 3a.

Hence, the only possible values for the 5th digit are 3, 6, or 9.

Case 1:5th digit=3
3a=3a=1
(2a1)=2×11=1
1 is not a multiple of 3.
a1

Case 2:5th digit=6
3a=6a=2
(2a1)=2×21=3
3 is a multiple of 3.
a=2

Case 3:5th digit=9
3a=9a=3
(2a1)=2×31=5
5 is not a multiple of 3.
a3

Hence, the 1st digit of the five-digit number is 2.
