A medicine capsule is in the shape of a cylinder with two hemispheres stuck to each of its ends (see given fig.). The length of the entire capsule is 14 mm and the diameter of the capsule is 5 mm. Find its surface area.

The surface area of hemispheres is 2×2πr2=4π×52×52=25π

The effective height of the Cylindrical capsule is 145=9

The surface area is given as=2πrh=2π×52×9=45π

So total surface area is 25π+45π=70πmm2
