Let us assume that he purchases x number of goods.
So, Total CP = 30x
Total SP = 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 ……x terms
Total SP should be at least 30% more than total CP, i.e. 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 …..x terms > 1.3 × (30 x)
Or 2 (1 + 2 + 3 + ….x terms) >39x
Or x(x + 1) >39x
Or x² + x >39x
Or x² – 38x> 0
Or x > 38
Thus, the merchant should sell a minimum of 38 units.
