A disease or disorder is called metabolic disease when the cause of a disease is not external but internal. They happen when normal body functions are altered due to abnormal chemical reactions in the body. Few examples of metabolic disorders are:
Heart disease: the heart is no more functioning normally for various reasons like less blood supply to heart muscles, blockages in major blood vessels etc.
Diabetes: Pancreas is not producing enough insulin or body cells are not responding to insulin in a proper way. This leads to abnormal increase in blood sugar level.
Uremia: a condition where excessive urea is present in the blood. This happens when kidneys cannot function properly and are unable to remove urea from the blood.
