The correct option is C Metal 1 will be in tension, metal 2 will be in compression
As $α_{1} > α_{2}$ , metal 1 undergoes more shortening then metal 2 due to decrease in temperature. To make up for this differential change in length, metal 1 is in tension and metal 2 is in compression.
