Question

A metal cuboid of dimension 22cm×15cm×7.5cm was melted and cast into a cylinder of height 14cm . What is the radius of the cylinder?

Solution

Dimensions of the cuboid =22cm×15cm×7.5cm

The volume of the cuboid =l×b×h=22cm×15cm×7.5cm=2475cm3

The volume of a cylinder =πr2h=227×r2×14=r2×44=44r2

Given that cuboid was melted into a cylinder, so the volume of the cuboid is equal to the volume of a cylinder.

So, 44r2=2475r2=247544r2=56.25r=56.25r=7.5cm

Hence, the radius of the cylinder is equal to 7.5cm.
