Question

A metal ion Mn+ having d4valence electronic configuration with didentate ligand from a complex.Assuming ^o >P ,what type hybridisation will Mn+ ion have according to VBT

Open in App
Solution

Mn+ will have d5s1 valence shell electronic configuration. If P (pairing energy) is less than ∆o then pairing of electrons will occurs. It means strong field ligands are present and pairing of electrons will occur. The electronic configuration in terms of t2g and eg will be t2g6. In terms of VBT we can say that three of the five d orbitals are filled. Shape of complex will be known by the number of ligands.
