Question

A metal pipe is 77 cm long. The inner diameter of a cross section is 4 cm, the outer diameter being 4.4 cm. Find its
(i) inner curved surface area
(ii) outer curved surface area
(iii) total surface area

Open in App
Solution

Let R and r be the outer and inner radii of the metal pipe. Then,

R=2.2 cm, r=2 cm, h=77 cm

(i)S1=2πrh=2×227×2×77=968 cm2

(ii)S2=2πRh=2×227×2.2×77=1064.8 cm2

(iii)TSA=S1+S2+2(πR2πr2)

=968+1064.8+2×227[(2.2)222]=2028.08 cm2
