Given,
Metal sulphate contains 28% metal.
i.e; it contains 72% sulphate
in 100g Metal sulphate MSO4
28g metal M, & 72g SO4 is present.
Now, Equivalent weight of SO4=MolecularweightofSO4ValencyofSO4
=962
=48.
Now for calculation of equivalent of Metal M
Let, equivalent weight of M be x
28% reacts with 72% SO4
Equivalent Mass 48 reacts with equivalent mass x
By gross multiplication, we get
x=2872×48
=18.66
Equivalent weight of M=18.66
Equivalent weight of SO4=48
Equivalent weight of MSO4=18.66+48
=66.66.
