Solution

Dear student

The metal is Magnesium, it has a silvery white appearance. Magnesium reacts with hot water and produces H2.
Mg (s) + 2H2O (l) →Mg(OH)2 (s) + H2 (g)

When magnesium metal reacts with dil. HCl, it forms magnesium chloride and hydrogen gas is evolved in the process. The balanced equation for the following reaction can be-
Mg(s) + 2HCl (dil.) -----> MgCl2 + H2(g)
