Question

A metal wire strain gauge having an unstrained resistance of 120 Ω and a gauge factor of 2.1 is bonded onto a steel grinder so that it experiences a tensile stress of 108 Pa. If young's Modulus for steel is 2×1011 Pa.. The strained resistance of the gauge is _____ Ω
  1. 120.12

Solution

The correct option is A 120.12
R0=120 Ω

G=.2.1

Stress =108 Pa

E=2×1011 Pa

strain=stressE=1082×1011=500 μ strain

ΔR=R0×G×ε

=120×2.1×500×106

=0.126 Ω

R=R0+ΔR=120.12 Ω
