Given that,
Total marks =650
John's score =35%

We have to find the marks scored by John, so converting 35% into a decimal,

35%=3510035100is thirty five hundredths=0.35

So,
Marks scored by John
=35% of 650
=35%×650
=0.35×650
=227.5

Hence, John scored 227.5 which is less than the qualifying marks (228) for that examination.
So, he could not qualify for the exam.
