Stomata are the pores via which leaves exchange gases.
During the night, when photosynthesis is not taking place, the plant uses stomata to take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide.
Stomata allow the plant to shed water in the form of vapour.
Transpiration is the loss of water through stomata. Transpiration aids in the cooling of the plant's leaves.
