Let the the mixture contains x moles of CO2 and 3x moles of CO. When the mixture is heated over charcoal, CO2 is converted to CO.
CO2+C2CO
Thus x moles of CO2 will form 2x moles of CO.
Total number of moles of CO becomes 3x+2x=3+x=5
x=2
Hence, 2 moles of CO2 are present.
