Initially, quantity of milk in the mixture= $\frac{7}{12} \times 24 = 14 l$
Quantity of water in the mixture= $\frac{5}{12} \times 24 = 10 l$
After adding 18 litres of water
Quantity of water = 18+10=28 litres
$\frac{m i l k}{w a t e r} = \frac{14 l}{28 l} = \frac{1}{2}$
