Let the required quantity of water = x litres.

According to the question,

70×10100+x=(70+x)×12.5100

=7+x=(70+x)×0.125
=7+x=8.75+0.125x
=x0.125x=8.757
=0.875x=1.75
x=2

2 litres of water must be added to make the mixture contain 12.5% of water
