Solution

Hydrogen as a fuel in the rocket

  • In rockets, liquid hydrogen is used as the fuel, because of the high value of heat of combustion.
  • A mixture of hydrogen and oxygen is used here, oxygen for the combustion of hydrogen, both of them stored as a liquid, as liquid hydrogen(H2) and liquid oxygen(O2)
  • Both liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen are cryogenic that is, the gases that can be liquified only at extremely low temperatures. so they must be stored at minus 423°F and should be handled with extreme care.
