The correct option is C 50 mL
Let volume of methane = x mL
than volume of ethylene = y mL
given x+y=30 mL ...(1)
On complete combustion of mixture
CH4x mL+O2CO2x mL+2H2OC2H4y mL+3O22CO22y mL+2H2O
Total vol. of CO2 produced =x+2y mL
x+2y=40...(2)
from (1) and (2)
x=20 and y=10 mL
If ratio had been y:x
than vol of CH4=y mL and vol of C2H4=x mL
on combustion
C2H4y mL+O2CO2y mL+2H2OC2H4x mL+3O22CO22x mL+2H2O
Total CO2 formed =(y+2x) mL=10+2(20)=50 mL
