n-Butyl amine is basic in nature. So when a mixture of n-Butyl amine and petrol is passed over an acid solution then n-Butyl amine will react with the acid-forming a salt and so n-Butyl amine and petrol can be separated.
So HCl can be used for separation.
NaOH, Na2CO3 and NaHCO3 are all bases.
