A mixture of oxygen and ethyne is burnt for welding. Can you tell why a mixture of ethyne and air is not used?

The mixture of oxygen and ethyne when reacts with each other, they give clan flame with high temperature. This is because of the complete combustion of ethyne.
Whereas when ethyne is burnt in air, it produces sooty flame due to the incomplete combustion of ethyne.
Thus, the mixture of air and ethyne is not used for welding.
