A mixture of sulphur and charcoal can be separated by _________ (solute/solvent) extraction method.

Open in App
Solution

Carbon disulphide (CS2) is a solvent. When carbon disulphide is added to the mixture, sulphur dissolves. When this mixture will be filtered, the filtrate is sulphur solution while the residue is charcoal. Leaving it open evaporates CS2 and sulphur crystals are left behind.

So, a mixture of sulphur and charcoal can be separated by solvent extraction method.
